BACKGROUND: The $16 million facility includes an approximately 20,000-square-foot, 500-seat performing arts and entertainment center and an 8,000 square feet College, Career & Technical Education (CCTE) Center, which wraps around half of the theater. The theater can fully support musical and theatrical events. The CCTE facilities support courses in two career pathways within the arts, media and entertainment industry sector--"Media and Design Arts" and "Production and Managerial Arts."

Over a period of four years, the Cowles Mountain Community Foundation has been working with Patrick Henry High School and San Diego Unified School District to raise funds for PHAME!  Donations from private individuals and organizations are providing additional equipment and amenities for the theatre above and beyond what the district provided. An early $40,000 gift in 2012 from Patrick Henry High School alumna and actress Annette Bening that was pivotal in launching fundraising efforts. In total, $285,000 has been raised, with another $50,000 pledged to date.

The performing arts center and CCTE facilities were part of a larger $40 million site modernization project funded by San Diego Unified School District's Propositions S and Z bond measures.
