MEDIA ADVISORY: San Diego Unified + San Diego Press Club present: November ED Talks

San Diego journalists are invited to participate in a special installment of ED Talks, a casual forum hosted by the San Diego Unified School District in collaboration with the San Diego Press Club. The goal is to foster open and robust conversations about public education.

The ED Talks will focus on the rise of e-cigarette use among youth and the resolution recently approved by the Board of Education on October 15, 2019 bringing awareness to the consequences of vaping, support administrative action to review and strengthen district tobacco policies, and improve health outcomes for all students. The discussion will include the impacts of e-cigarette companies advertising and selling products that appeal to youth.

Each ED Talks forum features an educator, administrator, elected official or special guest, who will kick off the conversation. Professional journalists will have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in on-the-record discussions.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Background:  There have been more than eight hundred confirmed illnesses tied to vaping and thirteen deaths across the country and more than twenty-two confirmed probable vaping-relating illness cases in San Diego County.  The recent dramatic rise in the use of e-cigarettes by youth is producing a new generation of tobacco products users. This installment of ED Talks serves as an opportunity to educate and raise awareness of this growing health crisis of our youth and discuss efforts to end all tobacco and nicotine addiction.

This event is for professional journalists. Please confirm attendance in advance by replying to this email or by calling 619-725-5578.
