San Diego School Student photographers Get Exposure to College Courses, Professional Photo Shoots

WHAT: More than 350 high school photography students throughout San Diego County will experience college for the first time through the lens of their cameras.  Photo 360 is a one-of-a kind event that allows students to attend several college-level photography workshops taught by the renowned City College photography professors and staff.  Every student will have access to a DSLR digital camera and will rotate through several professional studio photography workshops. Students will have the opportunity to photograph fashion models, learn advanced photographic techniques, including time-exposure photography and darkroom processing. Students will also interact with college students and faculty in a portfolio critique review. Photo 360 will allow students to experience the competitive world of photography in a professional environment in the new state-of-the-art photography studios at San Diego City College.  

WHO: Students and teachers from San Diego County High Schools: Patrick Henry HS, Grossmont HS, Santana HS, San Diego HS, Point Loma HS, Morse HS, Serra HS, School of Creative and Performing Arts, Vista HS, and Canyon Crest Academy, Rancho Bernardo HS, Mt. Carmel HS, Sweetwater HS, Bayfront Charter, Chula Vista HS, East Village HS, Lincoln HS, Mira Mesa HS, La Jolla HS, Scripps Ranch HS, and Olympian HS.  

·         20 Teachers from around the county will introduce their students to college for the first time. This one-of-a-kind learning experience has grown in popularity and has become a premiere partnership between K-12 education, San Diego City College and local photography businesses.

·         Event Sponsors and Businesses: Nelson Photo Supplies, George’s Camera, Tamron EDU USA, Panasonic, Sony, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Fuji Film, and Delkin Devices.

·         Professional Models: Models from REVA Events will participate in multiple studio photo workshops.  

·         International Fashion Clothing Designer: Ugochi Iwuaba will debut new a fashion and clothing line in several workshop sessions.

·         Special Effects: City College FX program created by Professor Andrea Signer will provide Hollywood-quality special effects, custom and makeup design by incorporating several college artist and models throughout various photo shoots.    

WHEN: Thursday, January 16 & 17

·         8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Welcome/Keynote/Kick-Off  (First-Floor Auditorium)

·         9:10 to 11:20 a.m. Photo Workshops  

·         11:20 to 11:50 a.m. Lunch/Exhibit Hall  (Lunch sponsored by Tamron EDU)

·         12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Afternoon Photo Workshops

WHERE: San Diego City College - Downtown San Diego, 1081 16th St, San Diego, CA 92101  Building- V101 CTC 4th & 5th floor  (Note: Building V101 CTC entrance is located at the corner of 16th and C Street)

VISUALS: High school photography students will photograph fashion models and work in several professional high-tech photography studios throughout the day. Students will be led by City College photography professors and professional photographers. This event is a high energy and fast-paced.  Other visuals include: new state-of-the-art photography studios, lighting equipment, classic cars, an exhibit hall, darkrooms, classrooms and student photo galleries.      

SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: City College: President Ricky Shabazz, educators and students from the San Diego Unified School District and San Diego County Office of Education, college professors and local photography business representatives.  (Spanish interviews available)

BACKGROUND: Photo 360 is designed to provide students with a real-world experience in professional photography at one of the leading college programs in San Diego. San Diego Unified School District, San Diego City College District and several supporting businesses have come together to promote the art and profession of photography to high school students. In addition to this unique opportunity, resources and information will be provided to students who wish to pursue post-secondary education and careers in photography.
