Masons of California and San Diego Unified Spotlight Partnership on Early Literacy Program

WHAT: In celebration of public schools and to highlight the importance of community partnerships and family engagement in supporting student outcomes, the Masons of California joins San Diego Unified School District and the Perkins UTK-8 school community to highlight their partnership on the early literacy program, Raising a Reader. Perkins UTK-8 is one of the newest schools to implement Raising a Reader, an equity-focused literacy program that engages families in the learning process and aims to help ensure every child has the family support for reading skills they need to thrive.

BACKGROUND: Raising a Reader is a program that engages teachers, parents and children in reading at home to support family literacy and improve student learning outcomes. This program is possible through continuous funding by the Masons of California. The program is currently being implemented at 11 schools in the district and has recently expanded to include first-grade along with UTK and kindergarten students. Perkins UTK-8 is one of the newest schools to implement the Raising a Reader program.
