BACKGROUND:

A UTK-8 magnet school located in Clairemont, John Muir Language Academy focuses on Spanish Language Immersion and offers music, art and dance, theater, broadcast, and ASB courses.

The campus was originally built in 1961 and served the community for 44 years as Anderson Elementary School before becoming the John Muir School in 2005.

In 2016, San Diego Unified replaced the decomposed granite field with a synthetic turf soccer field, and, in late 2020, construction began on a campus transformation.

Now in 2024, the campus transformation is complete, with a new two-story classroom and student services facility, a new Universal Transitional Kindergarten and kindergarten classroom building, a new locker building with a basketball pavilion, an on-site staff parking lot, and a reconfigured visitor parking lot that includes a student drop-off and pick-up area.

Additional improvements include the modernization of existing classrooms, restrooms, the multi-purpose building with the kitchen, and exterior playground areas. All portable classrooms were also removed.

PARKING:

Parking is available in the parking lot at Mt. Etna Drive. Enter through the main office and meet at the field. See map for reference.
