Background:
The Grassroots Program, a partnership between the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the National Football League Youth Football Fund, provides non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations with financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields. Over the last eight years, the Grassroots Program has provided $1,180,000 in grant funding for the construction and renewal of eight playfields across
That donation allowed the installation of the track and field to occur earlier than planned. Using Prop. S funds, San Diego Unified School District has begun refurbishing all high school athletic facilities by either installing new synthetic turf football fields and all-weather, rubberized running tracks; or by refurbishing existing synthetic football fields that are approaching their useful service lives.
