INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY, OCTOBER 6, 2010
WHAT: International Walk to School Day, October 6, 2010, at elementary and
middle schools around the San Diego Unified School District.
WHERE/WHEN: Events are being held at many schools, including:
-- City Heights: This year, the schools in the City Heights neighborhood are
once again working with the City Heights Community Development Corporation
on a mega-walk and Health and Safety Fair. Board President Richard Barrera
and Board Member Shelia Jackson will join San Diego City Council Member Todd
Gloria for the activities. Students from Central, Euclid, Joyner, Hamilton,
Ibarra, Marshall, Fay and Rosa Parks elementary schools are expected to

-- Lincoln and Morse high school areas. San Diego Unified School Police and
San Diego Police departments are coordinating efforts in the area, including
Porter Elementary. Students from that school, which is located at 445 S.
47th St. (92113) and 4800 T St. (92113), will be meeting at 8:45 a.m. in
Kennedy Park, 47th and T streets, and walking to their campus. Contact:

-- Sunset View Elementary School. Parents are meeting at 8:25 a.m. at the
Peet's Coffee, 9555 Catalina Blvd. in Pt. Loma, to walk their kids to the
school, which is located at 4365 Hill St. (92107). Contact: Jacquelyn

-- Curie Elementary School. Students and parents will be walking to their
school from 7:15-7:45 a.m.; 4080 Governor Dr. (92122). Contact: Chris
Juarez, Principal, (858) 453-4184.
-- Holmes Elementary School. Parents will meet at 8:30 a.m. and hold a sign
parade. Contact: Cabrini Hays, Holmes PTA, joyfulgirlcac@hotmail.com. Holmes
is located at 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111).
Other schools in the district scheduled to participate are Horton and
Sherman elementary schools. Others may be participating; if you're
interested in covering a particular campus, call the principal directly.
