MEDIA ADVISORY -- Students, Teachers, Principal at Roosevelt Middle Available to Discuss $7.3 Million Grant

STUDENTS, TEACHERS, PRINCIPAL AT ROOSEVELT MIDDLE AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS $7.3
MILLION GRANT

WHAT: Students, teachers and the principal at Roosevelt Middle School
talking about the recent award of a three-year, $7.3 million federal grant
to help the International Baccalaureate Magnet School programs at Roosevelt
as well as Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach.

WHO: Principal Arturo Cabello, students and teachers. Students will be
available to photograph and interview.

WHEN: 11 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010

WHERE: Roosevelt Middle School, 3366 Park Blvd. (92103). Located north of
the San Diego Zoo between Upas and Zoo Drive. Parking on street only.

BACKGROUND: San Diego Unified School District received first year funding in
the amount of $2,608,180 with a total award over the three years of
$7,249,462.00 to strengthen and expand the International Baccalaureate
Programmes at both Roosevelt Middle School (grades 6-8) and Mission Bay High
School (9-12). Roosevelt Middle School will strengthen its International
Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme and Mission Bay High School will
expand its IB program to include all students in the IB Middle Years
Programme at grades 9 and 10 and the IB Diploma Programme at grades 11 and
12. Courses at both schools will follow IB pedagogy and emphasize Science,
Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STREAM) inquiry that
educate and inspire students to solve real world problems as they learn to
work in a global society.
