BOARD'S MULTI-YEAR BUDGET PLAN ASKS FOR UNIONS' HELP
Three-Year Forecast Hopes for Better Days But Faces Realities
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Unified's Board of Education set a tentative budget
plan for the 2011-12 through 2013-14 fiscal years on Thursday night, with
a board vote to ask its employee unions for deferral of negotiated pay
raises and other concessions to help restore layoffs and balance the
district's budget.
The plan, outlined in a joint memo to the Board by trustees Richard
Barrera and Scott Barnett, asked staff to return for the Tuesday, June 14
meeting with a completed plan that would chart a course for the next three
years and satisfy state requirements for a balanced budget.
The Board will meet Tuesday, June 7, but at this time is not scheduled to
discuss budget issues.
