22 -- Summer Fun Café Kickoff Barbecue, Skyline Hills Community Park 8285
Skyline Dr. San Diego (92114). Sponsored by the San Diego Unified School
District and the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department. FREE
barbecue for children 18 and under. Parents accompanying children eat free
too. Barbecue features lots of activities and great food. Also on hand
will be valuable support service information. Participants receive a bag
of fresh fruits and vegetables to take home. CalFresh pre-screening

* 23 -- $223,000 Grant Announcement News Conference, 11:30 a.m., Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 6401 Skyline Dr. (92114). San
Diego Unified School District will be announcing the receipt of a major
grant for $223,000 at news conference. The City of San Diego and other
school districts have also received funds from this donor. Richard
Barrera, Board of Education president, and officials from the City of San
Diego and donor will be on hand for a news conference during the Summer
Fun Café barbecue at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center. Contact:

* 23 -- ³Feeding the Mind Body and Spirit,² 6 p.m., Lincoln High School,
4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). The Community Wellness program presents:
Michael ³Mike² Carey, NFL Official; Adam Henderson, Director of Track and
Field; and Monique Henderson, Olympic Gold Medalist. They will discuss
improving students¹ academic success and mental health through exercise,
nutrition and sleep. Sponsored by the Lincoln High School Youth Health

29 -- Lincoln High School Center for the Arts Concord Blue Devils Drum and
Bugle Corp Show, 3 p.m., Lincoln High School Stadium, 4777 Imperial Ave.
(92113). After a weeklong workshop with the band students at Lincoln High
School, the world-champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corp of Concord,
Calif., will perform live in the Lincoln High Stadium. Contact: Kelli

Ave. (92113). The Community Wellness program presents: Aniruddh Patel,
Ph.D, The Neurosciences Institute; and Sundiata Kata, Instructor San Diego
Youth Symphony. They will discuss the physiological and psychological
benefits of music on mental health and cognitive development preceded by
performances by San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory's Opus
Orchestra, Oak Park African Drummers, and International Youth Symphony.

guided discussion following a screening of "Race to Nowhere" regarding the
effects of stress on the cognitive, social, emotional and physical

learn history, heritage and performance lessons. Part of Parent Outreach's

Wednesday: Adams Avenue Farmers Market, 3- 7 p.m., Adams Elementary School

Association coordinates the Farmers Market. A percentage of the proceeds
go to Adams Elementary for fieldtrips and to maintain the school garden.
