The Food Packaging Event is the first of its kind in the San Diego Unified
School District.
Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary students have been practicing the
character trait of generosity for years. Generosity, compassion, honesty
and forgiveness are only a few of the many character traits that are
taught as part of the character education program at the school. The
character education program is a unique program that focuses on one
character trait each month. Each character trait is taught through
storytelling and activities led by parent volunteers.
In turn, students are expected to demonstrate these character traits on
campus and in their community In the past two years alone the students
have donated over $7,200 to Kids Against Hunger, a project of our charity
partner, Friends and Family Community Connection.
All students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade will be working on the
project, including weighing, sealing, sorting, and boxing up bags of food.
The students will get a hands-on opportunity to work cooperatively while
demonstrating generosity and compassion.
They will be supervised by dozens of parent volunteers and their teachers
in an amazing show of our school community spirit. The food will benefit
San Diego families as well as orphans in Tanzania.
