PT. LOMA OPTIMISTS HONORED AT DEWEY ELEMENTARY FOR SCIENCE LAB DONATION
WHAT: Ribbon Cutting Grand Opening of the Dewey Elementary Science Lab
WHEN: 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016
WHERE: Dewey Elementary School 3251 Rosecrans St. outside of Room B7, Science Lab. Media, please check in at office.
Who: Point Loma Optimist Club members, San Diego Unified Board President Mike McQuary, Area Superintendent Kimie Lochtefeld, Principal Tanya McMillin, students, teachers and parents.
DETAILS: Dewey Elementary is thanking the Point Loma Optimist Club for its donation of $19,000 for a new science lab. The ribbon cutting will include a student and a Point Loma Optimist member. Immediately following the ribbon cutting students will be invited in to do an experiment. Spanish-speaking staff member available. There is plenty of parking for media directly outside the classroom on the playground.
AGENDA: 11:00-11:10 a.m., thank you from Principal and students, remarks from Point Loma Optimist Club member and remarks from Board President Mike McQuary. 11:10-11:30 science lesson with kids working performing hands-on experiments in the new science lab.
BACKGROUND ON DEWEY ELEMENTARY: Dewey Elementary School is in the Point Loma area and serves a population approximately 65 percent military dependents whose parents rank is E6 and below. Students come from all over the world and move an average of every 2.9 years. Dewey gives them the very best education while they are transitioning in and out of schools.
