BACKGROUND: California's economy increasingly relies on highly educated workers—and the K-12 public education system can lay the foundation for successful preparation before students enter the workforce or pursue a postsecondary education.

To meet future economic demand, the state needs to more robustly invest in the public education system. California
currently ranks 46th in the nation in per-pupil funding.

What will it take to move the state to a robust investment level to prepare students to continue to compete in the 21st century global economy, and solve the state's future challenges?
