San Diego Unified Celebrates Start of Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American Heritage Month

WHAT: Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month recognition and celebration at district headquarters

WHEN: Friday, May 3, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  

WHERE: Eugene Brucker Education Center lawn, 4100 Normal St., San Diego, 92103

VISUALS: Live student performances including songs, poems, and motivational speeches. Reveal of an APIDA flag designed by students in the Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies Course (approximately 10:55 a.m.).

INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES: Students, district leaders, guests

BACKGROUND: A central office event is being coordinated for the first time in recognition of May as Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American Heritage Month. On Tuesday, April 30, the Board of Education adopted a resolution recognizing and honoring these San Diego communities and their commitment to making this region a better place. Additionally, the board directed the Superintendent to continue to work with local community Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations to inform the creation of resources to educate staff and students.
