San Diego Unified Celebrates the 2024 Day of the Teacher 

Hundreds are expected to attend the in-person celebration in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, recognizing more than 160 Teachers of the Year from 2024.

  

WHAT: In observance of National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10, these six educators will be honored at the Day of the Teacher celebration on Tuesday, May 7, at 5 p.m. during a ceremony hosted by ABC 10News reporter Natay Holmes. More than 160 Teachers of the Year from individual schools will also be honored. 

 

Universal Transitional Kindergarten teacher Jennifer Nannini from Hancock Elementary School, Standley Middle School math teacher Lisa Clifner, and Morse High School English teacher Maria Miller have been named San Diego Unified School District’s 2024 Teachers of the Year. Mackenzie Levine from Perry Elementary School, Kellie Marcarelli from Creative Performing Media Arts Middle School, and Skye Cooke-Pinon from San Diego High School have been named this year’s runners-up.

PARKING: Free Parking will be provided in the Padres Parkade structure (440 Eleventh Avenue). The parkade is a short 3-minute walk from the venue. To get parking validated, please bring your ticket to the check-in table, and we will provide you with a validation sticker that will allow you to leave the parking structure at the end of the day. A drop-off zone will be available for those who want direct access to the venue's main entrance. A very limited number of ADA parking spots will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

 

 

Interviews with the 2024 Teachers of the Year will be available at the ceremony between 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
