25 -- ALBA North Park Neighborhood Walk, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., new ALBA
campus, 4041 Oregon Street (92103). In an effort to effectively engage our
new community of North Park, volunteers from the district office, ALBA, and
the surrounding area will be distributing flyers about ALBA Community Day
School moving to the Oregon Street site and providing folks with information

* 27 ­ Summer Fun Café Barbecue and News Conference, 11:30 a.m., Linda Vista
Recreation Center, 7064 Levant Street, 92113. Summer Fun Café kids lunch
program visit by state Supt. Jack O¹Connell, hosted by Shelia Jackson,
President, San Diego Unified School District Board of Education. Jackson and
O¹Connell will be speaking at a special community barbecue. Contact: Jack

28 -- Board of Education Meeting, 5 p.m., Auditorium, Eugene Brucker

31 -- Hire-A-Youth Salute, 8:30-10 a.m., USS Midway, 910 N. Harbor Drive
(92101). More than 500 high school students and their employers are expected
in this star-spangled salute to San Diego Unified¹s Hire-A-Youth students
for summer ¹09. The federally funded program through the San Diego Workforce
Partnership provided summer jobs in business, industry and government
agencies for disadvantaged students. While at the Midway, students will hear
from adults who had similar childhoods and have become a success in life, as
well as thanks from their employers. Contact: Jack Brandais, Communications

31 -- Summer Graduation, Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave. (92113).
Last chance for the Class of 2009 graduates to ³walk² and receive their
diplomas in ceremony. Students from all San Diego Unified high schools are
scheduled to participate in the ceremony, which is for students who may have
had to complete a course in summer school or pass a test before graduation.

August

3-14 -- Summer Intensive, San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts
(SCPA), 2425 Dusk Drive (92139). Two-week program for advancing high school
students interested developing their chosen arts discipline; taught by SCPA
faculty and Master Artists from San Diego and Los Angeles. Contact: Richard

3 -- Crawford Area District E Parent & Community Forum with Board President

22 -- Sixth Annual New ERAA Conference for Parents and Students, 8 a.m. to

Everybody Recommitting to Academic Achievement (ERAA) Conference is
co-sponsored by San Diego Unified, several community groups and volunteers
with a goal to have parents and students become more knowledgeable,

7 -- Labor Day. All schools and offices closed.

8 ­ First Day of Classes for 2009-10 School Year. Note: Media are invited to
