WHAT: Classified Employee of the Year Celebration (Special Board of
Education Meeting)

WHEN: 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010

BACKGROUND: Jan Kosaka, Elementary School Assistant, Chesterton Elementary
School, has been named Classified Employee of the Year. Kosaka and the
individual school Classified Employees of the Year will be celebrated at
this special meeting of the Board of Education. Classified employees --
those without teaching credentials -- are San Diego Unified's support staff.
They perform tasks ranging from financial management to maintenance.

Kosaka has been a classified employee at Chesterton Elementary School since
joining the district in 1984, with time as a classroom aide and school
secretary. She's been called 'indispensable' by her principal, Herb Delute.

The ceremony at 5 p.m. Tuesday will include a special performance by the
Cherokee Point Elementary School Choir, each school's Classified Employee of
the Year, as well as remarks by Interim Supt. Bill Kowba, Board of Education
members and representatives of classified employee unions. Food will be
supplied by the Morse High School Tiger Café ROP Culinary Arts Program. The
event is free and open to the public.
