*15-16 -- Solar Cup, Lake Skinner, Riverside County (north of Temecula).
Students from San Diego High School of Science and Technology are joining
other high schools around Southern California for the Solar Cup, a
competition between school-built, solar powered boats, sponsored by the
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. SciTech environmental
projects students built the boat at the school. Contact: Jon Karanopoulos,

15 -- Clairemont High Spring Fling, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Clairemont High
School, 4150 Ute Dr. (92117). "Fiesta Grande" is the theme for the fair with
live entertainment, family fun and food. Free admission. Proceeds go to the
Clairemont High Foundation to benefit the students. For more information,

15 -- Ocean Beach Elementary Family Yard Sale, 7 a.m. to noon, Ocean Beach
Elementary School, 4741 Santa Monica Ave. (92107). Donations and shoppers
are welcome on this post-Earth Day event that raises money for the school.

17-- District E Parent and Community Cluster Meeting, 6 p.m., Morse High
School Library, 69056 Skyline Drive, (92114). Join Board Trustee Shelia

18 -- Classified Employee of the Year Celebration, 5:15 p.m. Cherokee Point
Elementary School Auditorium, 3735 38th Street, (92105). Honoring San Diego
Unified's outstanding individual non-teaching workers for the 2009-10 school

19-21 -- "Billy St. John's Figments," 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122). Figments,
as in the figments of your imagination, is a farcical look at our hero's,
Rick Jacobs, struggle with writer's block as he attempts to write his next
murder mystery. Tickets: $10 for non-students, $8 for students and $7 with

19 -- Salute to Excellence, 4:30 p.m., Nautilus Pavilion, Sea World, 500 Sea

counselors in a ceremony honoring the top one percent of seniors in this

19 -- District Advisory Council for Compensatory Education Programs, 6:30
p.m., Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress Ave. (92110). The District
Advisory Council for Compensatory Education (DAC) is a district-level
committee made up of parents, staff and community leaders who consult with
the Board of Education and district staff on behalf of Title I compensatory

19 -- Silver Gate Tile Project, noon to 2 p.m., Silver Gate Elementary
School, 1499 Venice St. (92107). Ever wonder how those handmade tile donor
walls are created? Silver Gate's Tile Project Fundraiser will have donors
creating their tiles right at school from noon to 2 p.m. The fired tiles
will later be mounted on a wall. Donations are $25 for one tile and $40 for

20 -- Proposition S Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC). 4 p.m.,

Subcommittee of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee for Proposition

* 21 -- 'HMS Pinafore' by Dana Middle School Students, 7 p.m., Dana Middle
School, 1775 Chatsworth Blvd. (92107). Classic operetta by Gilbert and
Sullivan performed on the big stage by middle school students. Loads of fun

22 -- Ocean Beach Elementary 100th Birthday Spring Fling, 5-8 p.m., Ocean
Beach Elementary School, 4741 Santa Monica Ave. (92107). Celebrating a
century of education at the beach, the Spring Fling has music, food, silent

22 -- Hearst 50th Anniversary School Picnic, 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Phoebe

23 -- Lincoln High Basketball Banquet, 3-6 p.m., Joe and Vi Jacobs Center at
Market Creek Plaza 404 Euclid Ave. (92114). Join the students, staff and
students and community of Lincoln High School as they honor the Hornet
varsity basketball team―the State CIF Division II Champions―and help raise
money for the program. Tickets: adults, $25, students, $15, with reserved

26 -- Author Visit to Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary, 10 a.m., Lindbergh
Schweitzer Elementary School, 4133 Mt. Albertine Ave. (92111). Alex Montoya,
a former student who's now an author and employee of the San Diego Padres,
was directly responsible for removing the fence that used to separate our
two campuses -- Albert Schweitzer School (which is now our East Campus) and
Charles Lindbergh Elementary (which is currently our West Campus). Montoya

27 -- Advisory Committee on the Utilization of Excess School Property, 2

2 -- Pacific Beach Middle School Orientation in Spanish, 8 a.m., Pacific
Beach Middle School 4676 Ingraham St. San Diego, CA. If you speak Spanish
and your child(ren) will be new to PB Middle next year please attend this

2 -- Family Wednesday, 9 a.m., Adams Elementary School, 4672 35th St.
(92116). The public is invited to join Adams students and staff in a flag
salute and a song by one of the classrooms, then to meet with Principal
Derek Murchison to hear about upcoming events, learn about school data and
have a question and answer session. Finally, the parents/guardians are sent
to the classrooms from 10-10:30 a.m. to read with the students. Contact:

4 -- Holocaost Survivor at Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School, 2:15
p.m., Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School, 4133 Mt. Albertine Ave.
(92111). Holocaust survivor, Gussie Zaks, who lost her entire family in the
camps and was a bunk mate of Anne Frank, will speak to our students about

4 -- Garfield High School Culinary Facility Dedication, time
to-be-announced, Garfield High School, 1255 16th St. (92101). Expanded and
renovated facility supports not only the school's award-winning culinary
arts program, but functions as an event center for the school. Contact:

10 -- Chelsea King Invitational Mile, 2 p.m., Lindbergh Schweitzer
Elementary School, 4133 Mt. Albertine Ave. (92111). In conjunction with the
Chelsea's Light Foundation, the invitational race is being offered to
deserving students throughout the district. The purpose is to honor the
memory of Chelsea and the qualities she stood for: athletic excellence,
academic achievement, and community outreach. Students must register by May

10 -- Community Advisory Committee for Special Education, all day, Standley

committee that monitors issues related to students in special education and

11 -- BIOCOM Partnership Announcement, 10 a.m., Millennial Tech Middle

industry professionals as guest speakers in middle school science classes.
