COMIC CON PANELIST, SDUSD LIBRARIAN, AVAILABLE TO TALK ABOUT COMIC BOOKS
HELPING READING, LANGUAGE LEARNERS

WHAT: Interview availability with SDUSD librarian Deborah Ford

DETAILS: On Saturday, SDUSD librarian Deborah Ford will be part of a Comic
Con panel discussing ³Comics in the Classroom.² Ford is an advocate of using
graphic novels and comic books, whatever will interest the student in
learning. The materials have been used successfully in a number of schools
around the district, especially with students who have learning
disabilities. Comic books and other literature of this genre has also shown
success with English language learners.

Ford is scheduled to be a panelist in at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the
Comic Con: Comics in the Classroom. Other panelists, according to the
convention's program, are Anastasia Betts of UCLA, Christina Blanch of Ball
State University and Tracy White of NYU; moderated by Chris Butcher (The
Beguiling).

PHOTOS/SPEAKING: Ford will be available for interviews.

NOTE: We¹re working to arrange for a school location with teachers and
students who are using graphic novels and comics to learn and improve
reading skills. Please call to determine availability.
