* 13 -- 5th Annual City Heights Giant Puppet Parade and Celebration, 9 a.m. Hundreds of children will march in the annual Welcome to Middle School Parade from Monroe Clark Middle to Rosa Parks Elementary. Joining festivities will be Hoover High students and giant puppets, dragons, African figures and children in traditional masks. It's a rite of passage, literally, for graduates of Rosa Parks to move on to the next level at middle school, part of a 12-year partnership of the three schools in the City Heights Educational Collaborative, supported by San Diego State University and Price Charities. The parade route: From Monroe Clark Middle School field, 4388 Thorn St., east on Myrtle Avenue and north on 45th Street to Rosa Parks, 4510 Landis St., circle the elementary school playground and then back to Clark. 17 -- SCPA 'Hairspray' Preview and Fundraiser, 6 p.m., Lyceum Theater, 324 Horton Plaza (92101). Gala reception will include complimentary appetizers, and desserts, as well as a silent auction and entertainment. Special preview performance of "Hairspray" will follow at 8 p.m. Students at SCPA are heavily involved in the production. Contact: Mitzi Lizarraga, principal,(619) 470-0555. Open to the public.

14 -- Military Parents' Resource Enrollment Fair, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Farb Middle School, 4880 La Cuenta Drive (92124). Military families new to the area are invited to register for any San Diego Unified school, plus learn about the various resources available to them from the district, the Navy, Marine Corps and the San Diego community. *21 -- New ERAA Rally for Education and Festival: Everybody Recommitting to Academic Achievement.
