WHAT: A Parade to Celebrate rite of passage from elementary to middle school in City Heights. An event with great visuals and sound.
WHEN: 9-11 am Tuesday, July 13, 2010
WHERE: Monroe Clark Middle School to Rosa Parks Elementary, and back again, 4388 Thorn St. to 4510 Landis St. 92105).
DETAILS: 600 students plus dragons and snakes and mythical beasts from around the world will parade starting at 9 a.m. They will be led by the San Diego Guild of Puppetry and the thunder from the drum corps from Monroe Clark Middle and Hoover High schools. They march to Rosa Parks school where they meet up with Rosa Parks recent graduates soon heading to Clark Middle. This event marks the 5th anniversary of the Welcome to Middle School parade, a rite of passage to emphasize the opportunities in education to City Heights residents. This three-school collaboration is the foundation of the 12-year partnership known as the City Heights Educational Collaborative supported by San Diego State University and Price Charities. The public is invited to watch the parade of students carrying the giant puppets and banners they have created, inspired by their studies of different cultures. The parade is sponsored in part by the San Diego Foundation, the California Arts Council, the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture and the Dr. Seuss Foundation.
