SUPERINTENDENT INTRODUCES NEW TEAM, STRATEGY FOR IMPROVING STUDENT
ACHIEVEMENT

WHAT: News conference introducing San Diego Unified¹s new management
structure, team and the Community-Based School Reform Model for student
achievement.

WHEN/WHERE: 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, Kearny High School, 7651 Wellington
St. (92111)

SPEAKERS: Richard Barrera, President, San Diego Unified School District
Board of Education; Bill Kowba, Superintendent; Nellie Meyer, Deputy
Superintendent for Academics. The district¹s senior management team,
including the nine Area Superintendents, will be available for interviews.
The news conference is during the district¹s kickoff event for principals
and senior staff; principals may also be available for interview, should
they so choose.

DETAILS: Supt. Kowba has now assembled his management team and the annual
principals¹ kickoff event is their first chance to meet with all the school
leadership. They will be unveiling the San Diego Unified Community-Based
School Reform Model, which will guide the district into the future. It is
based on the goals established by the Board of Education earlier this year
and charts a course for higher test scores and student achievement through
concentrating on what works for each neighborhood in San Diego.
