WHAT: News conference with new Board of Education members Scott Barnett and
Kevin Beiser, as well as Board President Richard Barrera, Vice President
John Lee Evans and Member Shelia Jackson.

DETAILS: Scott Barnett, Sub District C Representative, and Kevin Beiser, Sub
District B Representative, will take office on Monday. They will be sworn in
during the Board of Education meeting at 4:30 p.m. Before the meeting, at 4,
Board of Education President Richard Barrera, Vice President John Lee Evans
and Member Shelia Jackson will join the new members at a news conference to
discuss the Board's goals for the new year. Barrera will highlight the full
board¹s commitment to the continued implementation of the district¹s
community- based reform model and cluster governance, which is being
implemented to empower all schools and local parent communities to actively
lead student achievement programs. Barnett and Beiser will speak about their
goals and plans to establish an Operations and Efficiency Ad Hoc Committee.
This effort will focus on finding cost-saving efficiencies in district
operations.
The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception
for the new members, sponsored by California Coast Credit Union. At
approximately 5:30 p.m., the Board will reconvene to elect officers for the
new year.
