29 ­ Holmes Elementary School Halloween Carnival, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Holmes Elementary School, 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111). Annual
PTA-sponsored event features games, cake walk, food booths. Contact:

29 -- Sunset View Elementary Halloween Carnival, 3:30-7:30 p.m., Sunset
View Elementary School, 4365 Hill St. (92107). The 53rd annual event
includes a by-grade costume contest, slime booth, obstacle course and

31 -- Trustee Scott Barnett News Conference, 11 a.m., Eugene Brucker
Education Center, 4100 Normal St. (92103). Trustee Barnett will reveal his

5 -- Curie Elementary School Craft Fair, 4080 Governor Drive (92122).
Curie¹s 33rd Annual PTA Holiday Craft Fair is famous for its variety of

5 ­ GLEE Club Sing Out, 7 p.m., Taft Middle School auditorium, 9191
Gramercy Dr. (92123). San Diego staff and students will show-off their
musical talents at the fundraiser to support Visual and Performing Arts
(VAPA) programs at the district. $10 per ticket. Contact: Karen

11 ­ Veterans Day, all schools and district offices will be closed.

16 -- 14th Annual Garfield High School Thanksgiving Luncheon, 12 noon, The
Prado, Balboa Park. Garfield High culinary arts students, under the
direction of the Prado chefs, will prepare a delicious Thanksgiving feast.
Tickets are $40 in advance; $50 at the door. RSVP by 10/30/11. Contact:

16 -- Scripps Ranch High School Cluster Meeting, 4:30 p.m., Scripps Ranch

17 -- Clairemont Community of Schools Meeting, 5:30 p.m., Marston Middle
School, 3799 Clairemont Drive, San Diego (92117). Parents, staff, students
and community members interested in supporting the schools in the
Clairemont High School feeder pattern (Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Holmes
and Toler elementary, Marston Middle and Clairemont High schools) are

1 ­ Toler School Community Literacy Night/Book Fair, 3350 Baker Street
(92117), 5-8 p.m. Celebration of learning and literature, featuring guest
speaker Helen Foster James, author of four children¹s book including her
most recent, ³Little America.² Festivities also include student
performances, PTA Book Fair, free raffle and Student Council pizza sale.
