Regional Breaking Ranks 2013 School Showcase, April 20, 2013; San Diego, CA

Reston, VA The National Association of Secondary School Principals
(NASSP) and the Center for Secondary School Redesign (CSSR) are excited to
announce the first ever Regional Breaking Ranks School Showcase taking
place on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the San Diego Met High School in San
Diego, CA.

The Regional Showcase is a by-product of the highly successful National
Breaking Ranks School Showcase that takes place each year as part of the
NASSP annual conference. The unique and highly informative Regional
Showcase will convene school leaders, teachers, and students from the
nation¹s top middle and high schools located west of the Mississippi River
and will bring them together to discuss and share effective practices,
programs, and strategies with colleagues from across the country.

The Regional Showcase will take place from 8:00 a.m.4:00 p.m. at the San
Diego Met High School located on the campus of San Diego Mesa College.

³This Regional Showcase provides a wonderful opportunity to learn from
and interact with principals, teacher leaders, and students representing
exemplary middle-level and high school practices² said JoAnn Bartoletti,
NASSP executive director. ³This event is a tremendous value-added benefit
to NASSP Conference attendees.² Schools are chosen to present on the
basis of their outstanding reputations for quality and innovative
practices with challenging populations. At the Regional Showcase, they
will share stories of implementing the Breaking Ranks Framework for school
improvement created by NASSP.

³The schools presenting at this first Regional Showcase are truly
inspirational,² said Jason Midwood, CSSR director of quality assurance.
³As they share their stories of implementing the Breaking Ranks Framework,
participants will become energized about the possibilities. By engaging
in deep conversation around specific student-centered challenges schools
on the west coast are faced with, they will learn strategies that can be
implemented in their own learning environments so that transformational
change can take place.²

The 2013 Regional Showcase schools scheduled to present are:

* Alvarado Intermediate School Rowland Heights, CA
* Arkansas City High School Arkansas, KS
* Dodge City Middle School Dodge City, KS
* Forest Grove High School Forest Grove, OR
* Granger Junior High School National City, CA

The Regional Showcase offers 90-minute interactive presentations, plenty
of team collaboration time, and informal discussions that provide
participants an opportunity to engage with school representatives,
students, and other educators from around the country. Secondary school
administrators are highly encouraged to bring teams of educators from
their school to learn new techniques and strategies that will motivate and
inspire the redesign process. Past participants have called this type of
event ³powerful,² ³incredibly informative,² and ³some of the best
professional development I¹ve ever received.²

Recommendations and strategies discussed at this year¹s Regional Showcase
will include, personalized learning and teaching, utilizing data to
improve student achievement, learning beyond the classroom, creating and
sustaining a student-centered school culture, project-based learning,
empowering effective teachers, changing school culture through
collaboration, student-centered instructional strategies, increasing
