Clairemont Day at the Bay Offers Free Family-friendly Fun
First-time event raises funds, shines spotlight on the 16 public schools in the Clairemont/Madison clusters

WHAT: Clairemont Day at the Bay and Fast Time 5K Run/Walk will be held this Sunday, April 21, at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park. The free family-friendly event will spotlight the schools, businesses and community organizations in the Clairemont and Madison high school areas. Schools in the clusters include:  Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Field, Hawthorne, Holmes, Lafayette, Lindbergh Schweitzer, Sequoia, Toler and Whitman elementary schools; CPMA, Innovation and Marston middle schools; and Clairemont and Madison high schools. Each will have a booth at the event.

WHEN: Sunday, April 21, 2013
7 a.m. Fast Times 5K Race/Walk
8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Clairemont Day at the Bay Festival

WHERE: De Anza Cove, Mission Bay Park, San Diego

DETAILS: The event is two-fold, beginning with the Fast Times 5K Race/Walk, sponsored by the Clairemont Hills Kiwanis. A 2-loop, fast 5K Race with three separate categories beginning at 7 a.m. A 5K Fun Run/Walk geared for families and individuals of all ages and skill levels begins at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the race go to the Clairemont Mesa Educational Foundation.

Clairemont Day at the Bay festivities begin immediately following the race and end at 3 p.m. This free community event will bring the schools, businesses and community members together for a day of fun and educational activities for the whole family. High school and middle school students will provide entertainment throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. Elementary schools will host activities.  For example, Whitman Elementary is sharing a booth with I Love A Clean San Diego and will have an interactive table where visitors can build and fly plastic grocery bag kites. Holmes Elementary is partnering with Fish & Game and Tecolote Canyon to highlight its new native plants landscaping project. Attendees will learn to identify local plants and about predator/prey relationships in our local canyon.

SoCal Bounce and K-Co Construction, Inc. will have obstacle courses and bounce houses for younger children. The Paralyzed Veterans of America Cal-Diego Chapter will showcase radio-controlled cars, airplanes and helicopters. The Boys and Girls Club will have a giant Twister game. Local restaurants will have food for sale. There will also be an electronic waste recycling collection at the event.
