MEDIA ADVISORY -- Mira Mesa High School Dedicates New Computerized Graphic Productions Facility

WHAT: San Diego Unified School District's Mira Mesa High School is dedicating its new state-of-the-art computerized graphic productions facility. The Mira Mesa High School Computerized Graphic Production Program provides career and technical education in graphic production technologies for the manufacturing and product development industry.
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 15, (tomorrow); 12:30 p.m. The tour of facility is immediately following the ceremony (at approximately 1 p.m.).
WHERE: Mira Mesa High School, 10510 Reagan Road, San Diego 92126
Media parking will be available on site. (Contact me before 11 a.m. tomorrow to get a campus map.)
VISUALS: Presentation of colors by the Mira Mesa High School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, ceremonial ribbon cutting, tour of facility, displays with student work, and students demonstrating the use of the equipment.
GUEST SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Scott Giusti, principal, Mira Mesa High School; three Mira Mesa High School students (seniors in the Computerized Graphic Productions Program); Art Spurlock, Computerized Graphic Productions Program teacher; Lee Dulgeroff, executive director of Facilities Planning and Construction; and Shawn Loescher, director, College, Career & Technical Education (Interviews available in English and Spanish.)
Mira Mesa Computerized Graphic Productions Program
Mira Mesa High School provides the following sequence of technical education courses in this career pathway:
. Photography (grade 9): This course provides instruction in all of the processes involved in taking various kinds of photographs and producing finished prints. This course meets UC "f" subject-area credit.
. Graphic Communications Technology (grade 9): This course provides broad experiences in the areas of color and black-and-white photography, digital photography, screen process printing, offset lithography and finishing procedures.
. Computerized Graphic Design (grade 11): This course provides entry- and intermediate-level training in computerized graphic design including basic computer operations, employing page-layout, illustration and photo-manipulation software; use of peripherals, including scanners and plotters, and file-management integration. This course is eligible for community college credit. This course meets UC "g" subject-area credit.
. Screen Printing (grade 12): This course provides entry-level training in screen-process printing. Instruction covers job layout, copy camera use, stencil making and screen-process printing. Students participate in on- or off-campus internships. This course meets UC "f" subject-area credit.
