Introduce a Girl to Engineering Week: A Society of Women Engineers (SWE) San Diego Outreach Program for Middle School Students
WHAT: A day-long event that introduces middle school girls to the opportunities available in the Engineering field, made possible through a grant from Exxon Mobile.
WHEN: Monday, March 9, 2015, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Agenda:
8:40 a.m. Welcome, SDG&E video, ice breaker, engineering intro
9 a.m. Engineering panel (three professional women engineers or related STEM field)
10 a.m. Activity: Agilent Kit (electronic steady hands game) – take home item
11 a.m. Activity: Gum Drop Tower (team competition)
11:45 a.m. Lunch served, role model conversations with students
12:15 p.m. Student panel from Mira Mesa High School – curriculum overview, student advice
1 p.m. Industry tour – six stations (10 minutes each), chaperones will help keep time
2:10 p.m. Wrap-up, discussion with students, group photo

WHO: All eighth-grade students (girls) from Wangenheim Middle School; High students from Mira Mesa High School; Women engineers from Society of Women Engineers-San Diego; and Representatives from SDG&E
