MEDIA ADVISORY -- Kearny High Komets Celebrate New Stadium and Baseball Field Tomorrow

WHAT: San Diego Unified School District is dedicating new athletic facilities to Kearny High School tomorrow. Approximately 1600 students will join alumni, parents and community members in celebrating their new stadium, synthetic field, all-weather track, baseball field, and other amenities. Immediately following the dedication ceremony, the students will hold their first pep rally in their new stadium.
WHEN: Friday, April 10, 10-10:45 a.m.
WHERE: Kearny High School stadium, 7651 Wellington St., S.D. 92111 -- The stadium is located at the southeast corner of the campus off Wellington St. Media parking will be available on site.
VISUALS: Presentation of Colors by the school's Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, student athletes singing the National Anthem, student speakers, performance by cheerleaders, and ceremonial ribbon cutting with student athletes in uniforms. The students and staff will participate in a pep rally immediately following the dedication ceremony.

PROJECT INFO: This project included swapping the locations of the football stadium and the baseball field to allow for the proper orientation of the stadium, as well as expansion of stadium facilities. In addition to rebuilding the football stadium, installing a new field and track, constructing a new baseball field, and providing accessibility improvements. This project represents an investment of nearly $11 million into the Kearny High School and its surrounding community. Construction began in winter 2014 and was completed in spring 2015. The major project elements included:
Stadium:
* Replacing existing the football, track and field with new synthetic turf field and all-weather track
* Installing new accessible bleachers (approx. 1,580 seating capacity on the home side, and nearly 880 seating capacity on visitors' side)
* Constructing new press box with enclosed platform lift for accessibility
* Constructing new ticket booths, restrooms and concession stands for home and visitors' sides
* Constructing a new weight room
* Installing new stadium lighting and sound system
* Installing new scoreboard and goal posts
* Installing new entrance gates for home and visitor's sides
Baseball Field:
* Relocating existing baseball field and install new natural grass outfield
* Installing new accessible bleachers
* Constructing new accessible announcer's booth
* Installing new scoreboard
* Constructing new accessible dugouts
* Installing new backstop and fencing
