MEET THE CLASS OF 2016

Graduations held Monday, Tuesday, June 20-21

WHAT: Graduation ceremonies for more than 8,000 students in the San Diego Unified School District Class of 2016, the first class of seniors to graduate under the new, more rigorous “a-g” curriculum.

WHEN/WHERE: The list below is sorted by speaker and does not include all schools. For a complete list, go to https://www.sandiegounified.org/2016-commencements

DETAILS: The Class of 2016 is the first class of seniors to graduate under the new “a-g” for all requirements. The class also represents the highest percentage of students graduating among the five largest school districts in California. Some 92 percent are expected to graduate this year, a 2 percent rise from 2015.

“I have no doubts about the bright future awaiting the Class of 2016,” said Superintendent Cindy Marten. “Not only are they better prepared academically, they also understand how to follow their individual passions in an increasingly diverse society.”

VISUALS: Colorful graduation ceremonies for 24 campuses in the San Diego Unified School District are scheduled for Monday, June 20, and Tuesday, June 21, 2016. At each ceremony, a Board of Education member, Superintendent Cindy Marten, or a member of the district's senior leadership team will be formally presenting the school's class, a traditional part of the ceremony.

PHOTOS/INTERVIEWS: Board of Education members and Superintendent Marten will be available for interviews at their locations, as will principals, staff members, parents and students. Interviews are best conducted either before or after the ceremonies; accredited media are allowed on the field for photography, but interviews are discouraged during the ceremony.

Although the events are open to the public, tickets are generally required for public attendance. Tickets are distributed by the individual schools on a limited basis. Credentialed members of the news media will be admitted.
