Madison High School football program to be honored for excellence by San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education; Coach Rick Jackson nominated by the San Diego Chargers for prestigious Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award

 

SAN DIEGO (Jan. 10, 2017) – At today's Board of Education meeting, the San Diego Unified School District Board of Trustees will vote on a proclamation celebrating the Madison High School Warhawks football program. Introduced by Trustee John Lee Evans, the proclamation notes the team's commitment to succeed both on and off the field. After a dedicated season of hard work, the Warhawks earned a 21-17 victory over San Jose Valley Christian School during the Dec. 16, 2016 Division 2-AA CIF state championship game.

 

Recognizing Madison's Coach Rick Jackson for his transformative leadership and commitment to his athletes, the San Diego Chargers nominated Jackson for the national Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award, named after the winningest coach in NFL history. Jackson led the Madison High Warhawks to an 11-2 season. The winner of the coveted High School Coach of the Year title will be awarded $25,000 by the NFL Foundation, $15,000 of which will go to the high school football program. The victor will be announced on January 29 during the third quarter of the 2017 Pro Bowl. 

 

The San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education meeting begins at 5 p.m., and is held in the Eugene Brucker Education Center Auditorium located at 4100 Normal Street in San Diego, CA.
