Wednesday 5/30 – 4:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. – Top One Percent of San Diego Unified High School Graduates to be Honored at 'Salute To Excellence'; Outstanding Students in Class of 2018 Honored at Annual Event
The event recognizes seniors ranked in the top one percent of their high school's Class of 2018. More than 80 students will be honored, including all high school valedictorians. Principals, counselors, parents and other family members will be in attendance along with Board of Education trustees and Superintendent Cindy Marten. Ed Abeyta, UCSD Associate Dean and Director of Pre-College Programs, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Marilyn Hannes, Park President of San Diego SeaWorld and Aquatica, will welcome the attendees. Diego Robles from Kearny High School is the student speaker. Musical entertainment is being provided by the Preservationists from Mission Bay High School. This annual event brings together students from all San Diego Unified high schools, where they are announced by their principal, and receive a certificate and medal for their achievements. Some of the schools that students will be attending in the fall include Stanford, Cornell, Yale, Harvard, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and UCLA.

Thursday 5/31 – 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. – 5th Annual Patrick Henry High School STEM Day
150 Patrick Henry Engineering Academy Students will share their STEM knowledge with 500 5th grader from a neighboring elementary school. The high school students will lead the elementary school students in STEM themed projects including, the construction of a boat, a robotics engineering demonstration and a aquaponics activity.

Thursday 5/31 – 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Hickman Elementary School presents our 2nd annual LEADERSHIP DAY
Please join Hickman students as they lead the entire morning. They are creating leaders for our future and would love to have you see it in action. Media is invited to join Hickman for 2 hours of student led learning. Hickman Elementary is a school in the heart of Mira Mesa, with students who speak over 27 different languages. It has been an incredible year of learning together with the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" in "The Leader in Me" program. The philosophy is that ALL students are LEADERS. Each child has set individual "Mission Statements" to become a lifelong learner. It has been very exciting to see the shift in the students as they are empowered to unlock their individual potential.

Thursday 5/31 – 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. – Walker Elementary School Culture Fair
Join Walker Elementary as they celebrate their diverse school community with a culture fair. Students will be given "passports" to freely visit tables throughout the center of campus. Select classes will present a visual/ performing art, rooted in the specific culture that they studied. This is a whole family event. This event celebrates the cultural roots represented in our community of learners. We will have the chance to learn about one another through story, food and customs. In the end, we will increase our cultural competence and connect!

Friday 6/1 – 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. –More than 200 Kinder – 2nd Grade Special Needs Students Take Part in 2nd Annual Young Athletes Festival
The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) is holding its second annual Young Athletes Exhibition on Friday, June 1 in partnership with Special Olympics San Diego (SOSD). More than 200 students from preschool through second grade will participate in the event taking place at Clairemont High School. The Young Athletes Festival is sponsored by the district's adapted physical education department and the Southern California Special Olympics. Join 7 district elementary school K-2 grade students with special needs along with their general education peers as they spend the morning doing a variety of sports activities. The Clairemont physical education classes, ASB and cheerleaders are there to support the students and cheer them on. Young Athletes introduces students 2 to 7 years of age to sports skills and play activities that foster physical, cognitive and social development of young children with and without intellectual disabilities. All students participated in the program with their general education peers in classes co-taught by General PE and Adapted PE teachers. In all schools, they learned together and are now coming to celebrate together. This program provides opportunities to learn through sports play, developing all aspects of total fitness needed to compete in sport and promote the development of life-long skills that will help student athletes lead a more productive and independent life. Opening Ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. The exhibition will start at 10:30 a.m. An award ceremony will be held at the end of the day to honor the athletes. Each athlete who participates will receive an award.

Friday 6/1 – 2:30 p.m.– Patrick Henry High School Graduating Seniors "Wisdom Panel"
Graduating seniors will take part in a special "wisdom panel" in which they will share their thoughts with the underclassmen about the college process and what they learned at Henry High School that lead them to getting into the college of their dreams.

Friday 6/1 – 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. – Sequoia VAPA night
Sequoia Elementary celebrates their first year of officially becoming a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) focused school this year with a VAPA night celebration! Sequoia students will show off their creative and artistic talents with the community. The community will witness K and 1st graders perform a theatrical play, 2nd graders will perform a dance and 3rd,4th and 5th graders will perform in a music concert with violins. Additionally, parents and neighbors will have the chance to visit the Art Gallery where student art pieces will be on display.
