One San Diego to Local School Children: "We Have Your Back"

Non-Profit to Donate Backpacks Filled with School Supplies to More Than 3,000 Students over Next Seven Days

SAN DIEGO – Ahead of the first day of class for San Diego Unified School District students, One San Diego is partnering with local organizations to provide backpacks filled with supplies to children at five local schools. A total of 3,125 backpacks containing school-approved materials, including notebooks, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, crayons and calculators, will be distributed to students in communities from Barrio Logan to Lincoln Park.

The program, which runs August 17 to 24 and kicks off at Sherman Elementary on Friday, will also distribute backpacks to students at Porter Elementary, Perkins Elementary, Kimbrough Elementary and Logan Elementary. Partners include the San Diego Association of Realtors, U-Stor-It Self Storage, San Diego Zoo, Helen Woodward Animal Center, San Diego Padres, San Diego Unified School District, and San Diego police and fire departments. Additional service providers, such as CalFresh and Neighborhood House Association, will be present to provide resources for families.

One San Diego's "We Have Your Back" campaign helps students who are most in need show up to the first day of school with the tools to succeed and confidence to learn. Donations to help expand the program and assist more children can be made at 1sandiego.org/donate.

One San Diego is committed to enriching the lives of local youth through the support of quality educational opportunities, enhanced afterschool programs, job readiness and skills training, and college access education.
