IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR TOMORROW: TOUR ON SITE - MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Wave of Improvements Arrive at Pacific Beach Middle School as Demolition Starts Campus Transformation

Hello,

We wanted to let you know we are allowing media to come onto the construction site tomorrow morning. However, there are guidelines to follow:

(1)    Whoever is going inside the construction area will need to wear closed-toed leather shoes, pants & shirts with sleeves (short sleeves are OK).

(2)    We will provide hard hats, glasses, and vests for those coming in. You must wear these items as long as you are on the construction site.

(3)    Media must stay behind the red warning tape, unless San Diego Unified staff tell you otherwise.

(4)    Media will meet at the Diamond St. side of the project and Jamie or Samer will escort you to the construction team.

(5)    We will have Isa on hand to provide any Spanish sound.

Please remember to give us a heads up prior to coming, as we need to provide the hard hats, glasses, and vests to those visiting the site.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

SDUSD Facilities Planning & Construction

WHAT:

GUEST INTERVIEWS:

Dr. Mike McQuary, San Diego Unified School Board Trustee

Kimberley Meng, Pacific Beach Middle School Principal

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The Whole Site Modernization at Pacific Beach Middle School includes construction of a new two-story classroom building and three new classrooms in the existing library media center, and renovation and expansion of existing food service facilities. The new two-story classroom will replace two aging buildings on the Northeast corner of the campus along Felspar St. When complete, it will include innovative work spaces, 26 classrooms, and state-of-the-art technology.

This project will also complete the new and safer entrance to the campus from the new parking lot on Felspar St. by relocating administration offices.

Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) will also be upgraded in the existing science classroom building, media center, and auditorium.

The project is anticipated to complete in winter 2021.

BACKGROUND:

San Diego Unified’s capital projects are funded by San Diego Unified School District’s Propositions S and Z, which are local bond measures approved by San Diego voters to repair, renovate and revitalize neighborhood schools. In addition to renovation and replacement, bond projects include classroom technology, facilities to support College, Career and Technical  Education, classroom air conditioning, safety and security upgrades, and other facilities improvements at traditional and public charter schools throughout San Diego Unified.
