MEDIA ADVISORY: San Diego Unified + San Diego Press Club present: September ED Talks
San Diego journalists are invited to participate in a special installment of ED Talks, a casual forum hosted by the San Diego Unified School District in collaboration with the San Diego Press Club. The goal is to foster open and robust conversations about public education.
The first ED Talks of the new school year will focus on school climate and San Diego Unified’s commitment to providing an inclusive environment for students. Participants include Superintendent Cindy Marten, School Board members, student members and advisors of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA), Assemblyman Todd Gloria, and Rick Zbur, Executive Director of Equality California. Equality California recently released its first-ever Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card http://safesupportiveschools.org/, which shines a light on some of the successes and challenges that California's school districts say they're experiencing when implementing LGBTQ-inclusive programs and policies. San Diego Unified ranked in the top tier of "Spotlight Districts.”
Each ED Talks forum features an educator, administrator, elected official or special guest, who will kick off the conversation. Professional journalists will have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in on-the-record discussions. Light refreshments will be provided.
