San Diego Unified Celebrates Pride Month by Raising Pride Progress Flag

In recognition of June as Pride Month, the San Diego Unified School District will hold its annual ceremony to raise the Pride Progress Flag at district headquarters. The event will be led by San Diego Unified students, who will mark the occasion alongside district leaders, educators, and members of the Board of Education.
The ceremony highlights the district's ongoing commitment and education plan to promote safe and affirming school spaces for LGBTQIA+ students, families, and staff.

BACKGROUND: San Diego Unified is proud to support LGBTQIA+ students, families, educators, and staff members. On May 24, 2022, the Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution recognizing June 2022 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. The district recognizes its ongoing commitment to promote safe and affirming school spaces for students, families, and educators that focuses on intersectional diversity, acceptance, and unconditional support for our LGBTQIA+ students, families, and educators. The new Pride Progress flag symbolizes the inclusion of marginalized groups within the LGBTQIA+ community and includes additional stripes that represent individuals of color and the transgender community.
