San Diego Unified Celebrates the 2023 Day of the Teacher
Hundreds are expected to attend the in-person celebration in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, recognizing more than 150 Teachers of the Year from 2023.
WHAT: In observance of National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12, six educators will be honored at the Day of the Teacher celebration on Tuesday, May 9, at 5 p.m. More than 150 Teachers of the Year from individual schools will also be honored.
Leann Samek from Audubon Elementary School, Lee Yepiz from DePortola Middle School, and Trishaa Camp from Scripps Ranch High School have been named San Diego Unified School District’s 2023 Teachers of the Year. Jillian Salazar from Tierrasanta Elementary School, Julie Rick from Marshall Middle School, and Laurisa Murray from Mira Mesa High School have been named this year’s runners-up.
WHEN: May 9, 2023
PARKING: Free Parking will be provided in the Padres Parkade structure (440 Eleventh Avenue). The parkade is a short 3-minute walk from the venue. To get parking validated, please bring your ticket to the check-in table, and we will provide you with a validation sticker that will allow you to leave the parking structure at the end of the day. A drop-off zone will be available for those who want direct access to the venue's main entrance. A very limited number of ADA parking spots will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.
Interviews with the 2023 Teachers of the Year will be available at the ceremony between 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
