BACKGROUND: San Diego Unified will kick off the new school year with a commitment to the values of equity and belonging, to create conditions for all students to thrive. Students have access to mental health and wellness supports, free and nutritious meals, and extended learning opportunities. A rigorous education is offered to all students–from four-year-olds enrolled in free Universal Transitional Kindergarten through high school.

The number of Community Schools in the district will triple, from five last year to 10 new schools this year. Through community school partnerships, Community Schools provide families resources & support, from counseling to nutrition programs to tutoring. Supporting students outside the classroom helps them succeed inside the classroom.
