Students Showcase Culinary Skills at First-Ever 'Taste of San Diego Unified' Featuring Student-Run Food Truck
For the first time, students from five high school culinary programs will be preparing and serving up culinary creations from Sunset Bites, the student-designed and operated food truck
October 16, 2024
WHAT: Order up! Media partners are invited to capture the first time Sunset Bites – San Diego Unified's student-run food truck – is ready for action.
Students from the district's College, Career and Technical Education (CCTE) Culinary Pathways will be prepping, cooking, and serving up chicken tacos, sliders, and acai bowls from the truck. The culinary students from Garfield, Hoover, Mira Mesa, Morse, and San Diego high schools will also be serving dishes inspired by global cuisine from various food booths.
The customers? Hundreds of middle school students who will be getting a first-hand look at the types of programs available to them when they reach high school. District central office staff will also be in attendance.
This free inaugural event, which highlights the district's commitment to providing programs that spark students' interests and prepare them for an array of college and career opportunities, will officially launch the food truck for use at future district and school events, where food will be offered for a fee.
Later this year, the truck will also be available for outside bookings. Similar to a catering business, the truck will be offered for rental, with students at the center of all operations, from pricing to product. Proceeds will benefit the CCTE food truck program.
