MEDIA ADVISORY -- Teachers of the Year Honored at 4:30 p.m. Ceremony Today

MEDIA ADVISORY from the San Diego Unified School District, May 3, 2011

SAN DIEGO UNIFIED TEACHERS OF THE YEAR HONORED AT 4:30 P.M. CEREMONY TODAY

WHAT: San Diego Unified School District Day of the Teacher Celebration,
honoring the district Teachers of the Year, school Teachers of the Year,
National Board Certified Teachers and Future Educator Scholars

WHEN: 4:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011

WHERE: Mission Bay High School auditorium, 2475 Grand Ave. (92109)

DETAILS: Board of Education meeting and ceremony to honor participants. This
annual event celebrates the excellence of teaching in San Diego Unified as
well as the future teachers, high school students who are Future Educator
Scholars. The three San Diego Unified Teachers of the Year are: Mark Alcorn,
a fifth grade teacher at Lee Elementary School in South Bay Terraces; Jean
Chalupsky, a seminar literature teacher at Marshall Middle School in Scripps
Ranch; and Jonathan Winn, a calculus teacher at CHAMPS School at the
Crawford High Educational Complex in City Heights. Each school's individual
Teacher of the Year will also be congratulated. The district Teachers of the
Year will go on to the San Diego County Teacher of the Year competition in
the fall.

PHOTOS/INTERVIEWS: Teachers of the Year will be available for interview. In
addition, culinary arts students from several high schools are catering the
event and music will be provided by a high school band. Board of Education
members and the Superintendent will be in attendance, as will senior
district staff and many principals.
