the Broadway classic about a disfigured man living in the catacombs of the

* 14 -- Student Art Exhibit and Reception, 5-7 p.m., Eugene Brucker

reception for students, parents, employees and the public to celebrate the

­paint, ink, photography and sculpture ­ will be on display in the

the age of 15-19 years and their parent/guardian are welcome to attend.

* 16 -- Curie Elementary Magical Family Fun Night, 5:30 p.m., Curie

Magic Spectacular, as seen on HBO, Comedy Central and The Tonight Show,
dazzles the Curie community with sensational illusions. Hotdogs, chips and

16 ­ Marine Fitness Day, 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Challenger Middle School,
10810 Parkdale Ave (92126). Challenger students are on the path to
physical fitness. They won the Governor¹s Physical Fitness Challenge
Regional Award in 2011 and Front Runner Award in 2008, 2010 and 2011. This
second annual event with local Marines from MCAS Miramar and Camp
Pendleton will challenge students with an obstacle course, help them learn
new exercises, and emphasize fitness. The question of the day is who will

* 17-23 -- 2012 San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering, various
locations. The weeklong festival kicks off with events at San Diego State

offers 37 events, including Expo Day at Petco Park on Saturday, March 24.
More than 55,000 students, families, scientists and educators will

students compete for a chance to participate in the national spelling bee.

22 -- La Jolla Cluster Views "Race to Nowhere," 6:30 p.m., La Jolla High
Parker Auditorium, 750 Nautilus St. (92037). "Race to Nowhere: The Dark
Side of America's Achievement Culture" will be watched, followed by a
panel discussion. The cluster association first showed this film in
October 2010, and it prompted changes in homework policies at some public
