SCHOOLS WELCOME MEDIA ON READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
Read Across America Day is held every year to honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss and encourage volunteers to visit schools and read to kids. More information: http://www.nea.org/grants/13003.htm
The following schools will be welcoming the media on Read Across America day, Friday, Mar. 2, 2012. Photographs of kids are encouraged!
-- Fulton School, 8:30 a.m., 7055 Skyline Dr. (92114). City Council President Tony Young and Board of Education President Dr. John Lee Evans will be reading to students. Principal: Stanley Munro, (619) 262-0777.
-- Adams Elementary School, 9:30 a.m., 4672 35th St. (92116). Several members of the district leadership team will have breakfast with the students, then read to them starting at 10 a.m. Principal: Derek Murchison, 619-284-1158.
-- Hardy Elementary School, 7:45 a.m., 5420 Montezuma Rd. (92115). Students have been voting on their favorite Dr. Seuss character all week. The winner will be revealed Fridaym March 2, at 7:45 a.m. Principal: Kathy Wolfe, 619-582-0136.
-- Walker Elementary School, 9245 Hillery Dr. (92126). Events start on Thursday with a surprise mystery guest at lunch. Friday ends with a "throw a pie at the principal” contest. Principal: Rochelle Dawes, 858-271-8050.
Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School, 10 a.m., 4133 Mt. Albertine Ave. (92111). California Sen. Christine Kehoe, San Diego City Council Member Laurie Zapf, Clairemont Town Council President Ryan Trabuco, and eight Therapy Dog Teams, among others, are coming to read to students.
