MEDIA ADVISORY -- Correia Middle School Holds Mock Election

MEDIA ADVISORY from the San Diego Unified School District, Nov. 6, 2012

CORREIA MIDDLE SCHOOL HOLDS MOCK ELECTION

WHAT: Voting and counting of ballots at Correia Middle School for 2012 presidential election

WHEN/WHERE: 2 p.m. counting, 2:30 p.m. result, Correia Middle School, 4302 Valeta St. (92107).

DETAILS: Students at the middle school are holding a mock election, with each classroom voting for members of an electoral college that will make the final decision. Voting will be taking place at 2 p.m., followed by counting and announcement of the results on a school-wide video hookup at 2:30. A convention-style atmosphere will be taking place when the results are announced. Students involved will be available for interviews and photographs. The school is using today's election as a demonstration to the students of not only how democracy works, but how the US Constitution's electoral college operates. Located in Pt. Loma, Correia Middle School has grades seven and eight.
