IMIN SYNERGY SUMMIT WILL EMPOWER SAN DIEGO YOUTHS
WHAT: High school youth summit to empower students to take charge,
develop, design and lead after school programs that connect with the needs
and interests of their peers. Students will be given the training, tools
and resources to return to their school sites to develop a
club/organization or a service learning opportunity.
WHEN: Saturday, December 1 (rain or shine)
€ 8:30 a.m. Students arrive, sign in, continental breakfast and ice
breaker
€ 9:00 a.m. Keynote speaker, Robert Ortiz Empowering Student Voices
€ 9:20-11:40 a.m. Breakout Session rotations #1 4 (every 35 minutes);
topics include social Networking Norms, Leaders with Heart, Leadership
Communication, Service Learning, and Identifying Community Issues
€ 11:40 a.m. Lunch speaker, Nathan Fletcher, and student performances
(dance, spoken word and song)
€ 12:15 p.m. Breakout Session Rotation #5
€ 12:45 pm. Closing remarks and dismissal to busses
€ 1:00 p.m. Busses depart

BACKGROUND: Second annual youth leadership summit to empower high school
students to take charge, develop, design and lead activities outside of
the regular school day that connect with the needs and interests of their
peers. Students will learn creative ways to:
€ Design, develop and promote unique clubs/activities
€ Organize campus events
€ Evaluate program success
€ Strengthen communication skills
€ Connect with peers throughout Southern California
Student representatives from the following high schools will be attending:
Clairemont, Garfield, Kearny, Lincoln, Mission Bay, Morse, Point Loma,
San Diego, Serra, School of Creative and Performing Arts and Twain.
Community groups involved include: Champions, EduCare Foundation, !Mpact
People, Cal-SOAP, Rescue Social Change Group, Greater San Diego
After-School All-Stars, eXcel Youth Zone, Hoffman Clark & Associates, and
21st Century ASSETs Grant staff from school sites.
The 21st Century ASSETs grant is managed by the Office of College, Career
& Technical Education.
