San Diego High School Alumni Association To Honor Veterans
WHAT: San Diego's oldest high school cordially invites the local media, SDHS Alumni and friends to come and honor our veterans for the service they have given to this county. The SDHS students, staff, SDHS Alumni Association & SDHS Foundation would like to acknowledge that the City of San Diego has been a military town since the turn of the century with its citizens serving in every U.S. conflict since the Civil War.
WHEN: Friday October 28, 6 p.m.
WHERE: San Diego High School – Balboa Stadium, 1405 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92101
WHO: 7 local veterans have been chosen with their families to be honored (see below for details)
Activities: Veterans will be honored at half time & will serve as Honorary Captains and do the coin toss

Eddie Head II, President of the San Diego High School Alumni Association, will be presenting Certificates of Appreciation to our honored Veterans tonight.
Colonel Victor E. Bianchini. Mr. Bianchini was in the U.S. Marine Corps for 32 years, with combat service in Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf War as an Infantry officer, Force Reconnaissance Officer and Judge Advocate General Officer. He is a San Diego High School Alumni from the Class of 1956. Colonel Bianchini has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Valor device, 3 Air Medals, and a Combat Action Ribbon.
Next is retired Sergeant Robert Hernandez of the U.S. Marine Corps. Sergeant. Hernandez is the President of the Sunny Jones Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served as an Infantry Squad Leader during combat service in Ramadi, Iraq as well as a combat instructor. Sergeant. Hernandez has been awarded the Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor device as well as the Purple Heart Medal.
Retired Lance Corporal Angel Garibay of the U.S. Marine Corps served in Helmand Province, Afghanistan as an Assistant Team Leader and Squad Automatic Weapon Gunner. Lance Corporal Garibay has been awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart Medal.
Retired Sergeant Corey Mann of the U.S. Army served as a Military Policeman in Jordan and Iraq. Sergeant Mann has been awarded the Combat Action Badge and Purple Heart Medal.
Retired Specialist 4 Patrick Hurley of the U.S. Army is a San Diego High School Alumni from the Class of 1966. Mr. Hurley served in the Republic of Vietnam as an Infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division between 1967-1969. He has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal.
Captain Peter J. Brady of the U.S. Army is a San Diego High School Alumni from the Class of 1985. Captain Brady saw combat service in Iraq between 2008-2009, and Afghanistan between 2010-2011 as an Infantry and Civil Affairs officer. Among other awards, Captain Brady has earned the Parachutist Badge, Ranger Badge, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Retired Captain Scott Crowder of the U.S. Army is a San Diego High School Alumni from the Class of 1963. He served as the intelligence officer within the 18th Airborne Corps and served in the Republic of Vietnam as a Signal Officer, participating the Tet Counter Offensive of 1969. Captain Crowder has been awarded two Bronze Star Medals.
The San Diego High School Alumni Association is very proud to pay tribute to these fine San Diegans and joins all Americans in thanking our military Veterans for safeguarding our liberties and keeping our country free. Everyone, please join us in thanking our San Diego Veterans!
