Pershing Middle School Hosts 1st Annual Special Olympics
Teams and athletes from schools throughout San Diego Unified will be taking part in a day of competition in more than 10 Olympic events

WHAT: San Diego Unified would like to invite the media to cover Pershing Middle School's 1st annual Special Olympics Games on March 23, 2017. Teams and athletes from schools throughout the district will be taking part in a fun day of comradery and competition. For weeks leading up to the competition students have spent time training in their specific events in order to qualify for specific divisions and distances.

The Special Olympics is the leading voice in raising awareness about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities. San Diego Unified is proud to showcase the skills and dignity of our student athletes through sport. The games are meant to bring together communities to see and take part in the transformative power of sports. We believe in a world where there are millions of different abilities not disabilities, and through events like this we're able to spread this message.
