Student "Chavistas" from 22 San Diego Unified Schools Honor Cesar Chavez at 8th Annual Mañanitas Breakfast with Acclaimed Playwright Luis Valdez
More than 900 students will take part in the celebration of the civil rights leader's birthday at the San Diego Convention Center


WHAT: The 8th Annual Las Mañanitas Breakfast will host several hundred elementary and middle school students who participate in the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs at their schools. The San Diego Unified School District has 35 Cesar Chavez Service Clubs within the district. Since 2001, the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs have offered an exciting and innovative leadership development club. The Clubs are built on the ten values of Cesar Chavez and are designed to engage Club members in leadership and community service activities.

This year the event will honor widely acclaimed playwright Luiz Valdez, who is considered to be the founder of Chicano Theater. Luis Valdez will be honored for his lifelong influence on Chicano culture.
