Background:
Teach Lead is a collaborative partnership between the Franklin Covey Education Group, San Diego Unified’s Extended Learning Opportunities Department , TEACH/LEAD program, and the College Career and Technical Education Department. The program provides students with a paid teaching internship, leadership opportunities, MTS transportation pass, and two elective credits (credit acceleration) for interested high school students ages 16 and up.
The program began Summer 2023 with 65 students from Mira Mesa and Canyon Hills high schools. This year, the program opened to all high school students 16 years old and up. It is a component of the San Diego Unified’s summer-credit electives and internships to support elementary students in their summer academic program.
This summer over 265 students participated, student-teaching five hours a day for 14 days of summer school at 19 elementary school sites. The program served as a first job for most students.
