Sun Life Financial to Surprise Students with Giant $5,000 Check

WHAT: The U.S. division of Sun Life Financial Inc. (NYSE: SLF, TSX: SLF)
will make three surprise scholarship presentations to: Latrice Brown, San
Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, Priscilla Elizalde, Kearny
High School, and Eric Jackson, Kearny High School, each a local winner of a
$5,000 Sun Life Rising Star Award.

BACKGROUND:
The Sun Life Rising Star Awards program is a new program developed by Sun
Life Financial to recognize and provide resources to high school students
who have overcome the odds and remained committed to furthering their
education and the nonprofit organizations who work on their behalf. The
awards program will give away a total of $1,000,000 in grants and
scholarships in 2010, of which $165,000 will be awarded in the San
