News Release -- Bids come in underestimate for Madison High multimedia center

NEWS RELEASE

Bids for New Madison High Multimedia Center Come in Underestimate

SAN DIEGO-On March 5, 2010, a bid opening was held for the construction
of a new multimedia center at Madison High School. This is the third
project bid under the San Diego Unified School District's Project
Stabilization Agreement. All the bids for this project came in under
the government cost estimate of $3,037,592.00, with the apparent low
bidder being 20 percent under. Madison High School is located at 4833
Doliva Drive, San Diego (92117). Below are the bids.

This bid tabulation reports the results of the bid opening only and does
not guarantee or imply project award. The district Strategic Sourcing
and Contracts Department will be making a recommendation regarding this
bid to the Board of Education on April 13, 2010, at 4100 Normal Street,
San Diego, CA 92103. If awarded on April 13, construction will begin
thereafter and will be complete February 2011.

Project Description:
The new 3,250 square-foot, high-definition broadcast journalism building
was designed by experts in the field, and will support traditional live
broadcasts, as well as webcast capabilities. This facility supports a
course of study that prepares students for work in the arts, media and
entertainment industry. The broadcast area consists of a 900 sf. two
set studio next to an adjacent 335 sf. (8) workstation Control Room.
Student learning and project preparation will occur in a 1,150
square-foot audiovisual classroom that will have three editing rooms.

The new multimedia facility is a Career Technical Education (CTE)
facility that is partially funded by a California State Proposition 1D
grant. Local Proposition S funds will be used to fund the rest of the
project.
